Hi, I’m sarah.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how people meet their goals.

I spent over a decade as a researcher and teacher, supporting and mentoring students. Once I left academia, I found myself wondering how to reconceive of my life and my self without those structures and institutional validation. Working through those questions, I found many strategies to help me find a new sense of purpose, to stop fighting my own brain chemistry, and to make a life that I wanted to live. Working with so many writers and students over the last six years as a coach and editor, I’ve supported clients in everything from writing better essays to developing tenure files to planning and executing multi-year and multi-sited research projects. It all comes down to envisioning the professional or personal life you want, and setting goals that align to it. That process is where I want to meet you.

my background

I’m a researcher, teacher, writer, editor, and coach. I hold a Masters degree in Pan-African Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of Louisville, and a PhD in African History and Feminist Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. My primary research focuses on the politics of gender in the Rwandan monarchy, though I am broadly interested in how we create the narratives and stories that define our aspirations and our realities. Originally from the Indiana-Kentucky borderland, I developed a love of cooking, music, and Coca-Cola, and a deep antipathy for mosquitoes and Pepsi. I currently live in Seattle with my partner, three spoiled cats, and a respectable collection of cast iron.
